European Union To Provide Ukraine With €18 Billion In Financial Assistance For 2023

Euronews: EU to provide Ukraine with €18 billion in financial assistance for 2023, says von der Leyen

Continued support to Ukraine and the bloc's strategic position against China dominated discussions among EU leaders at the second day of a summit on Friday.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the EU is set to provide Ukraine with up to €18 billion in financial assistance throughout 2023 to cover the basic budgetary needs of the war-torn country.

WNU Editor: This EU financial assistance does not include military assistance.

So why is the EU rushing to provide this aid now for 2023 instead of next year?

My gut tells me that these EU leaders know that this winter is going to be horrendous for many in the EU.

High energy prices (if you can get a reliable source of energy). Inflation. Shortages. Business closures. High unemployment. High debt loads for governments, businesses, and individuals.

There will be no appetite among Europeans to provide aid to Ukraine when so many are suffering. Hence the rush to do it now.
