Sweden buys 10 HIMARS rocket launchers from US in $729 million deal to create first long-range strike unit

Sweden signed a contract worth over SEK 7 billion ($729 million) on September 7, 2026, to purchase more than ten M142 HIMARS launchers and a comprehensive GMLRS ammunition package from Lockheed Martin, with initial deliveries starting in 2027. The strategic acquisition establishes the Swedish Army's first operational rocket artillery capability, addressing a critical long-range gap within its new division under the Total Defence Bill 2025-2030.
