US Army disbands its dedicated drone battalion despite Ukraine's latest battlefield success

The U.S. Army is phasing out its specialized 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment (3-504 PIR), returning the 600-soldier formation from its experimental drone assault role to standard airborne infantry duties following Exercise Saber Junction 2026 in Germany. Initiated under acting Chief of Staff Gen. Christopher LaNeve’s "The Army Azimuth" strategy, the realignment pivots focus toward core combat fundamentals rather than centralized battalion-level unmanned formations.
