Taiwan deployed U.S.-made M1A2T Abrams tanks inside Taoyuan International Airport for the first time during the Han Kuang 42 exercise, with the August 7, 2026 drill testing how armored forces could stop an airborne assault from turning the island’s main aviation hub into an enemy logistics foothold near Taipei. According to the Liberty Times Military Channel, the scenario combined Abrams tanks, Yunpao armored vehicles, engineers and civilian airport resources to defend critical infrastructure while preserving the airport’s operational value for as long as possible.
