U.S. Navy awards HII $56 million for British and Australian SSN-AUKUS nuclear submarine development

On October 13, 2026, the U.S. Navy awarded Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) Newport News Shipbuilding a $56 million contract for engineering and design work supporting the AUKUS nuclear-powered submarine program with the United Kingdom and Australia. The award includes a $35 million option that could raise its total potential value to $91 million, with 88% of execution taking place in Virginia through September 2027.
