Switzerland Keeps US Patriot While Weighing Israeli and European Long-Range Air Defense Systems

Switzerland has shortlisted Israel’s Barak MX and the Franco-Italian SAMP/T NG for an additional long-range air defense system, seeking to expand national protection while reducing dependence on American Patriot missiles. The decision, announced by the Swiss Federal Council on October 28, 2026, follows growing uncertainty over U.S. delivery schedules and reflects Bern's determination to strengthen its defenses against aircraft, cruise missiles, and ballistic threats.
