Will The Debacle In Afghanistan Impact U.S. Democrat Prospects In Next Year's Midterm Elections?

CNBC: Biden’s approval ratings have plummeted, and that could spell trouble for Democrats in Congress 

* The chaos surrounding the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and the emergence of the Covid delta variant have driven President Joe Biden’s approval ratings to their lowest point in his presidency. 

* While Afghanistan dominates cable news, pollsters say Covid is likely the main factor behind Biden’s slip in the polls. 

* Passage of two big spending bills this fall could help turn things around for Biden and Democrats in Congress. 

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden is having a very bad month. 

His poll numbers have slipped to their lowest point of his presidency, and much of it has to do with Covid and Afghanistan. 

The frenzied U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan appears to have shaken voters’ faith in his promise to bring competence and a steady hand back to the White House. 

Americans across the political spectrum are horrified by images of desperate mobs trying to get to the Kabul airport and flee the country. Biden insists that an element of chaos was inevitable with any U.S. withdrawal. 

But after 20 years of war and nation-building, the speed with which Afghanistan fell to the Taliban raises painful questions about whether American soldiers died in vain.

US-built first Saudi MMSC frigate HMS Saud launched at Fincantieri’s shipyard

According to information published by the Saudi Ministry of Defense on December 18, 2025, the first Multi-Mission Surface Combatant frigate constructed in the United States for the Royal Saudi Navy has been officially launched at Fincantieri Marinette Marine’s shipyard in Marinette, Wisconsin. The ship, designated HMS Saud with pennant number 820 and also known as Jalalat Al-Malik Saud in honor of King Saud, is the lead vessel in a four-ship program ordered under Project Tuwaiq through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales framework, a deal that defense officials have repeatedly described as a cornerstone of bilateral naval cooperation.
