As reported by Infodefensa and Jon Hawkes on January 24, 2025, the Spanish Army announced during the IAV2025 conference that it plans to replace its Leopard 2A4 tanks with the Leopard 2A8 (the most modern version of the series) and upgrade its Leopard 2E fleet to the 2EM variant. The Leopard 2A4 fleet, comprising approximately 80 units, includes operational tanks and those stored in Zaragoza.
