Philippines to receive 20 F-16 Block 70/72 fighter jets from the US as confrontations with China grow

On April 1, 2025, the U.S. State Department announced the approval of a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to the Philippines for twenty F-16 Block 70/72 fighter jets and associated weapons, equipment, and support systems, valued at an estimated $5.58 billion. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) delivered the necessary certification to Congress, opening a 30-day window during which lawmakers may review the proposed deal, although such sales are rarely blocked.
