Russia's FSB Opens Criminal Probe Into Wagner Chief Prigozhin's Call For An 'Armed Mutiny'

FSB opens criminal case after Yevgeny Prigozhin accuses Russia’s military of rocket attack and says ‘evil’ leadership must be stopped

Russia’s FSB security service has opened a criminal case for armed mutiny against Wagner’s Yevgeny Prigozhin after the mercenary chief accused the Russian military of targeting his forces and vowed to “destroy” his rivals.

In an extraordinary series of audio clips released late on Friday, Prigozhin claimed that a Russian rocket attack had killed scores of his fighters, vowing to take “revenge” and “stop the evil brought by the military leadership of the country”.

“Those who destroyed today our guys, who destroyed tens, tens of thousands of lives of Russian soldiers will be punished. I’m asking: no one resist,” Prigozhin said.

WNU Editor: Yevgeny Prigozhin is clearly frustrated with the state of the war. He wants to unleash the full strength of the Russian military on Ukraine instead of the piece-meal approach that the Kremlin is using. He is not sympathetic with the cautious nature that the Russian ministry of Defense is following, and he wants a change in the Russian military leadership.  But his rhetoric has gone too far, and there will be consequences.

As to the big question .... will the Wagner chief's comments impact the war? My answer is it will not.

Yevgeny Prigozhin is not a military commander, as such his calls for the military to support him will be mostly ignored. But politically he has caused a stir, and I predict it will be very hard for him to recover.

Russian President Vladimir Putin leads a meeting on economic issues in Moscow on Monday. (Alexei Nikolsky, Sputnik, Kremlin Pool Photo via AP)   Daily Beast: Putin’s Own Men Are Already Discussing Who Will Replace Him   Three months into Vladimir Putin’s bloody “special operation” in Ukraine, his own men in the Kremlin are reportedly discussing who will replace him.  That’s according to new reporting by the independent news outlet Meduza, which cited several sources close to the Russian presidential administration who said officials are increasingly fed up with Putin personally.  Some of Putin’s own allies within the Kremlin walls have reportedly floated the idea of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin becoming his successor, or former President Dmitry Medvedev, who is now the deputy chairman of the Security Council.
