Ukraine Says It Is Gaining Ground In Bakhmut

 

Reuters: Ukraine hails gains in Bakhmut as Zelenskiy wins more weapons in Europe 

KYIV/LONDON (Reuters) - Ukraine on Monday hailed its first substantial battlefield advances for six months as President Volodymyr Zelenskiy won pledges of new long-range drones in Britain to add to a haul of Western arms for a counteroffensive against Russian invaders. 

Since last week, the Ukrainian military has started to push Russian forces back in and around the embattled city of Bakhmut, its first significant offensive operations since its troops recaptured the southern city of Kherson in November. 

"The advance of our troops along the Bakhmut direction is the first success of offensive actions in the defence of Bakhmut," Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander of Ground Forces, said in a statement on the Telegram messaging app.

WNU Editor: The sources are trust are giving a different story. Ukraine launched a successful offensive to open up routes for the remaining soldiers in Bakhmut to escape. But after days of heavy fighting Ukrainian casualties are approaching 2,000 (if not more). Russian forces have also suffered heavy losses, including the loss of 2 colonels, but nowhere near what Ukraine suffered. 

The next few days are going to be critical on where this offensive goes. But if reports that Ukraine suffered heavy casualties in the past few days are true, this offensive is going to end.
