US spends $1.9 billion on Aegis Guam missile defense system to stop China's hypersonic attacks

The United States is investing nearly $1.9 billion to turn Guam into a hardened missile defense stronghold capable of resisting Chinese ballistic and hypersonic strikes, after the U.S. Missile Defense Agency awarded Lockheed Martin a new $407 million contract modification on May 7, 2026.
