Japan is set to approve a record $734 billion (¥115.5 trillion) budget for fiscal 2025, surpassing the previous $727 billion (¥114.38 trillion) budget for 2023, according to a report by Kyodo News on December 25, 2024. While a significant portion will be allocated to defense and social security, Japan's growing defense spending remains much smaller than the U.S. defense budget, which exceeds $800 billion.
