The SUN: China shows off new warship, nuclear sub and guided-missile cruiser in show of strength amid Taiwan tensions 

CHINA has unveiled three new warships as tensions with Taiwan reach boiling point. 

President Xi Jinping showed off the country's newest assets - an amphibious helicopter carrier, a nuclear sub and a guided-missile cruiser - in a public display of strength as a warning to Taipei. 

The ceremony took place in a military port in the southern city of Sanya on Friday as fears grow that China is building a force capable of retaking Taiwan. 

President Xi watched over the display, reports the Times, as the helicopter carrier named Hainan - which can transport up to 1,200 troops as well as dozens of jets - was unveiled. 

A new guided-missile cruiser was also shown off featuring stealth technology, as well as an upgraded Type 094A nuclear-powered submarine - thought to be able to carry ballistic missiles.

US-built first Saudi MMSC frigate HMS Saud launched at Fincantieri’s shipyard

According to information published by the Saudi Ministry of Defense on December 18, 2025, the first Multi-Mission Surface Combatant frigate constructed in the United States for the Royal Saudi Navy has been officially launched at Fincantieri Marinette Marine’s shipyard in Marinette, Wisconsin. The ship, designated HMS Saud with pennant number 820 and also known as Jalalat Al-Malik Saud in honor of King Saud, is the lead vessel in a four-ship program ordered under Project Tuwaiq through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales framework, a deal that defense officials have repeatedly described as a cornerstone of bilateral naval cooperation.
